Something New is Brewing...

I always say reflection is key to learning & growing. Within the past 3 months I've been reflecting on the joys of life, the art of creation & the passions that drive us.  With much reflection I've felt a heavy heart on how often we are robbed of joy due to the comparison game.  I have to admit that my thief of joy, that I've struggled with for years, is comparison.  How sad that we can look right & look left and believe that we are not capable, that we don't have what it takes and that are dream is just that, a dream.  The truth is that we are all fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14).

I believe strongly in sharing with you not only my joys, but my struggles.  For many of us, our struggles have helped to shape us, we've grown from them and we've seen the light of His grace through them.  So, my challenge to you and to myself is step beyond the limitation of our own mind.  I say to you; be you.  There is no greater person to be.

With all of that said, I've decided to launch a brand new site and take the next step in my blogging and design dreams.  Please join me on this journey and keep checking back for the launch of my new site "Brooke Kelly." As I take this next step there is an underlying layer of anxiety that I have to let go of.  I must always remember that in Christ all things are possible (Philippians 4:13).

So, take that next step...

I hope you like!

Ain't No Party Like a Hodag Party

I had the pleasure of putting together the decorations and photo booth for my ten year class reunion this past weekend.  I was ecstatic when the lovely ladies of the planning committee asked me to help because I love any excuse to get crafty.  The best thing about this event was the challenge.  My goal was to be inventive, create unique touches and add a lil fun & excitement into this special night while keeping within a very tight budget.  With that goal in mind, I was up for the challenge.

Have fun and take a look...

Party Prep...

I found the frame above at Michaels for $1/each.  I bought five frames and spray painted them with chalk paint that I had on hand to help display our fun hashtags that we used throughout the evening. I also printed simple card stock signs for "reminders" & "instructions" during the night.

Another perk of being a bargain hunter, you have a plethora of fun items in your "secret" storage closet. The chalkboards worked amazingly for the photo booth and the arrows & easels were wonderful for signage.

This was by far my favorite craft for this event!  Rhinelander Brewing Company has the cutest little glass beer bottles called "shorties" and I dressed them up with a lil chalkboard paint and some flowers I had on hand.

The final craft to tackle was the photo booth.  This was very simple, but the trick was in attaching them to the wall without chipping the paint.  I bought your basic silver fringe, super glued them to a yardstick and then attached them to the wall using Command velcro strips.  It was easy peasy!  I also attached an inexpensive plastic black table cloth to the wall to hide the wall color and create depth.

Set Up Extravaganza...

Where does the time go?

In the midst of working full time and pursuing your dream there are definitely highs and lows.  Highs of excitement in discovering new ideas, being creative and working with clients and/or friends, but then there are definite lows of wondering if this dream of yours will ever come to light.  Timing is key and I'm excited to see what the next six months bring.   As always lots of prayer combined with fun and thoughtful quotes.

My current inspirations...

Keep pressing on...

Full Speed Ahead

It amazes me every year how time flies, one minute it's January 1st and the next Spring is right outside your door!  With all the craziness that Spring brings I'm still trying to find the correct balance between my 9-5 and the passion that drives me.  With that said, here's a little sneak peek of what's to come for Brooke Kelly Design...

A winter wedding for a beautiful friend...

I recently sat down with a dear friend and had a beautiful conversation regarding her December nuptials.  Ali is a beautiful person, so full of life and joy; when you're around her it's contagious!  After our initial girly gab session we began to discuss details and her vision for her "BIG DAY."  I love those precious moments; the anticipation and excitement, the creativity, the personality of a person coming to life, so much fun!  I love Ali very much and I am honored to help bring her vision to life!  Above is a little taste of the beauty we hope to create. We visualize eclectic pieces, rustic charm and soft feminine touches.

Love you Ali!

Katelyn & Jared

Well, winter is upon us and that reminds me of my wonderfully talented, smart, innovative and beautiful friend Katelyn; not just because of her love for the winter, but because of the beautiful day she said "I Do."  It's been almost two years since she got married and I cherish the memories I have from that beautiful winter's day.  As I embark on this new endeavor; Katelyn has graciously written a kind and loving testimonial about her big day.  Have fun and take a peek...

I love you Katelyn!  Thank you for these beautiful words!
